1st Annual CUSH
Salty Sandbagger Golf Tournament
CUSH (Clean Up Stonington Harbors) will host its first annual Salty Sandbagger Golf Tournament on Monday, October 5, 2009 with a 9 a.m. tee off at Elmridge Golf Course in Pawcatuck. Entry fees are $100 each or $400 per foursome, including a cart and lunch. Tee sponsorships are $50.
“It doesn't matter if you're a swimmer, diver, boater, fisherman, or simply love looking out over the sound,” says CUSH President Gracelyn Guyol, “if you want to support improving local waters, this tournament is a fun way to do it.”
Superior golf skills are not required and may not assure a prize. Shotgun tee off at Elmridge allows 18 groups to begin play simultaneously, with a second flight of foursomes thereafter to minimize waiting. The tournament is a “scramble,” designed for spending a fun day with friends who play at differing levels while supporting a good cause. “Best ball” rules mean after a foursome has teed off, they all play from the most advantageous ball, keeping the group together and game moving. But beware of “sandbaggers” - golfers who profess no skills until bets are made.
To join the fun, download golf registration or tee sponsorship forms from www.cushinc.org. For more info, call 860 949-0911 or e-mail Gracelyn@cushinc.org. Deadline for entry is September 30.
CUSH, Inc. is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit working to improve Stonington harbors between the Mystic and Pawcatuck Rivers. It conducts scientific water testing to document conditions, takes action to remedy pollution, and educates residents about ways to improve local waters. An all volunteer organization, tournament proceeds and donations go to support environmental programs.
